As registered trainers with the Environmental Health Association of Ireland we offer both courses:
- Primary Course in Food Safety (Level 2)
- Refresher Course in Food Safety
Primary Course in Food Safety
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for all food handlers who have not completed food hygiene training previously – it is applicable to all sectors of the food industry.
Course Description
The course is made up of 10 modules (food hygiene awareness, personal hygiene, HACCP (from delivery to service) etc. As part fulfilment of the course attendees must complete a course workbook so good literacy skills are required. The course is interactive so if you have any concerns please contact us and we will be happy to discuss and put you at ease.
Certification
Upon completion the candidates are required to complete a test paper comprising of the following:
- 9 multiple choice questions
- 14 short answer questions.
Candidates will be awarded a Certificate in Primary Food Safety which is valid for 5 years.

EHAI Refresher Course in Food Safety
Who is it for?
The Refresher Course in Food Safety is available to any student who has previously completed a Level Two Food Safety Course within the previous five years.
In order to complete the exam the candidate will need to provide evidence that he/she is eligible.
He/she will have to provide:
- A certificate received on completion of an appropriate level two course dated within the previous five years or
- An email or letter from the certifying authority confirming that the level two course (as described above) has taken place within the previous five years
Course Description
The EHAI Refresher Course in Food Safety is an eight module course that takes approximately three and a half hours to complete (e.g Microbiological Hazards, Food Contamination, Personal Hygiene)
Certification
Upon completion the candidates are required to complete a half hour exam consisting of:
- 6 multiple choice questions
- 6 short answer questions
Candidates will be awarded a Certificate in Primary Food Safety which is valid for 5 years.
Duration: half day – 3 – 3.5hrs.
NOTE: A candidate who has passed a Level 2 Food Safety course may undertake no more than two subsequent EHAI Refresher Courses in Food Safety. When the second EHAI Refresher Course in Food Safety certificate has expired, the candidate must sit and complete a full Level 2 Food Safety Course before he/she is eligible again to sit the Refresher Course.
